Certified Beauty Course - Vocational

The Trust also runs a vocational course to provide beauty training to girls from BPL families to equip them with skills to gain employment and stand on their own feet.

The beauty culture training module has been provided free of charge to Lepra by “BRIDGES – School Of Beauty”  a well known organization run by Smt. Nilofer Currimbhoy, daughter of the famous beautician Smt. Shahnaz Hussain.

The curriculum for this 6 month course follows the same module as that being taught in the Shahnaz Hussain’s training institutes. Students have to appear for a written and a practical examination in order to receive their diploma.

In 2006, we also started beauty training classes for our hearing impaired girls. In the year 2018-19, 12 Students got their Certificates. In present(July 2019), 15 students are enrolled. Till July 2019, 517 students completed their courses with Lepra and have received certificates.

The Taj Group of Hotels have also facilitated beauty workshops at the Trust to help our students get exposure to current professional trends in the beauty and hair styling market.

Our students also attend smart classes every week to further broaden their horizons in the current market trends.

It is also our endeavor to develop the social and interactive skills of the students undergoing this course, since that is an essential skill set for this profession. Our students have also been trying to develop a few beauty products like scrubs and packs made from natural ingredients and work towards their packaging and branding.

These are small steps and sometimes the challenges we face are big, especially since the girls come from traditional homes where marriage and other issues take precedence. Yet, At Lepra we have successfully skilled over 500 students, many of whom have obtained employment. Visitors are always welcome to come and receive some beauty treatment from our students – it helps boost their confidence!
