Assistant Professor of Exercise Science

The Department of Exercise and Health Science at Muskingum University invites applications for a full-time faculty position in exercise science at the rank of Assistant Professor, beginning in the Fall semester of 2026.  The successful candidate will work closely with faculty and students in Muskingum’s growing programs in exercise science, health and fitness, public health, and pre-medical profession specialties.  The University's Henry D. Bullock Health and Wellness Complexis equipped with state-of-the art diagnostic and fitness technology and equipment and provides extraordinary opportunities for applied experiential learning in wellness programming and community partnerships. Contract type will depend on candidate qualifications.

The faculty member in this position will contribute to the department in numerous ways:

• Providing excellent classroom instruction to diverse learners in a wide range of courses in exercise science, physiology, and nutrition;
• Supporting the department’s work in obtaining and maintaining CAAHEP and CASCE accreditation;
• Building and maintaining professional relationships with allied health providers that support internship and fieldwork opportunities for students;
• Advising students on navigating coursework and career planning; and
• Contributing to the overall life of the university through committee work and other service.

Qualifications

A master's degree that supports instruction in both exercise science and nutrition is required, with a doctorate and undergraduate teaching experience preferred. National certification(s) such as ACSM Certified Exercise Physiologist (EP-C) or NSCA Certified Strength and Conditioning Specialist (CSCS), or comparable credential, are preferred.  In support of the University's mission, experience and/or interest in working creatively with both traditional and non-traditional students is preferred.
