Location: ONSITE, Chandler, AZ

Job Summary:

The IoT Application Development Manager will lead a team of developers and engineers in the design, development, and deployment of robust, scalable, and secure applications that leverage data from connected devices and sensors. This role requires a strong blend of technical expertise in IoT ecosystems, proven leadership skills, and a deep understanding of software development lifecycle (SDLC) best practices. The manager will be responsible for translating business requirements into technical specifications and ensuring the successful delivery of high-quality IoT solutions.

Key Responsibilities:

Team Leadership and Management:

  • Lead, mentor, and manage a team of software developers, solution architects, and quality assurance engineers focused on IoT applications.
  • Develop and/or manage off-site development teams. Ensure quality timelines and costs are effectively managed.
  • Allocate resources effectively and manage the project pipeline, ensuring timely delivery within budget constraints.

Technical Strategy and Execution:

  • Define and drive the technical architecture and technology stack for new and existing IoT applications, ensuring they meet scalability, security, and performance requirements.
  • Oversee the full software development lifecycle (SDLC), utilizing Agile/Scrum methodologies to manage sprints, backlogs, and releases.
  • Ensure application compliance with security standards (e.g., data encryption, authentication protocols) specific to the IoT domain.
  • Hands-on involvement in complex architectural decisions, code reviews, and troubleshooting high-priority technical issues.

Stakeholder Collaboration:

  • Interface with product management and business stakeholders to understand and refine product requirements and roadmaps.
  • Collaborate with the IoT Platform/Hardware teams to ensure seamless integration between the device layer, cloud infrastructure, and the application layer.
  • Present technical strategies, project status, and risks to executive leadership.


Required Qualifications:

  • Education: Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in Computer Science, Engineering, or a related technical field.
  • Experience:
    • 5+ years of progressive experience in software development, with a focus on web, mobile, or backend applications.
    • 3+ years of experience in a leadership or management role, leading technical teams.
    • 2+ years of direct experience developing or managing applications within an IoT ecosystem.
  • Technical Skills:
    • Proven expertise with homegrown Cloud Platforms and others such as AWS IoT, Azure IoT Hub/Central, Google Cloud IoT).
    • Strong background in data visualization (Reporting, dashboards, and content delivery to stakeholders).
    • Strong background in backend development (e.g., Python, Java, Node.js) and database technologies (SQL and NoSQL).
    • Familiarity with IoT-specific communication protocols (e.g., TCP, MQTT, CoAP, ).
    • Experience with CI/CD pipelines , DevOps practices, and containerization technologies (e.g., Docker, Kubernetes).

Desired Skills and Competencies:

  • Experience with data analytics tools and techniques for processing high-volume time-series data from IoT sensors.
  • Knowledge of edge computing and machine learning model deployment on edge devices.
  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, with the ability to articulate complex technical concepts to non-technical stakeholders.
  • Demonstrated ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced environment.
