Job Summary:
Universal Display Corporation is seeking a Research Scientist to apply advanced design-of-experiment (DoE) methodologies and Bayesian optimization techniques to high-throughput chemical research and reaction optimization, with an emphasis on applications in organic electronics and materials chemistry. As a key player in our multidisciplinary team, the Scientist will develop and implement groundbreaking algorithmic strategies that drive experiments to optimal outcomes. The work will accelerate the discovery of innovative materials and reaction conditions, propelling our advancements in organic electronics. The candidate should be familiar with the latest developments in Bayesian optimization and data-driven experimental design and be able to lead exploratory research projects independently.

Key Responsibilities:
  • Lead the charge in designing and implementing state-of-the-art Bayesian optimization algorithms and experimental designs (DoE) to uncover the best chemical reaction conditions and material formulations.
  • Continuously refine and adapt optimization models based on experimental results and feedback, improving the efficiency and success rate of each iterative experimental cycle.
  • Work alongside a dynamic team of chemists, materials scientists, and device engineers to seamlessly integrate Bayesian optimization methods with cutting-edge laboratory workflows and automated instruments.
  • Work closely with synthetic and analytical chemists to interpret experimental data, identify promising reaction conditions and guide further optimization steps.
Required Qualifications:
  • PhD in Chemistry, Physics, or a related field (e.g., Chemical Engineering, Materials Science).
  • Demonstrated expertise in Bayesian optimization and statistical experimental design, with hands-on experience applying these methods to chemical or materials research.
  • Familiarity with multiple experimental design and optimization techniques, including classical DoE approaches (such as factorial designs and response surface methodology) and modern machine learning-based methods (such as Gaussian process regression modeling for optimization).
  • Proficiency in Python for scientific programming.
  • Experience with scientific computing and data analysis libraries in Python (e.g., NumPy, pandas, PyTorch, BoTorch, etc.).
Preferred Qualifications:
  • 2+ years Post-doctoral research experience (or equivalent industry experience).
  • Background in organic electronics, or prior research experience with organic electronic materials (OLEDs, organic semiconductors), is a plus.
  • Experience with automated laboratory systems (e.g., robotic liquid handlers and high-throughput screening platforms).
  • Experience with user interface (UI/GUI) design for scientific software applications.
