Music Director for Fall Season

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The Music Director is responsible for working with the Theatre Teacher and Director to help plan and teach the music to the cast. They interpret the music and help guide the director and choreographer by suggesting changes in the music or places where it should be modified. The Music Director will plan and lead music rehearsals, including “all hands on deck” rehearsals, helping to assemble and prepare the musical tracks, helping to train and monitor our sound operators during tech week and shows.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

• Attend creative team meetings with the Production Team  to develop the overall vision of the show.
• Study the script and music.
• Participate in auditions and callbacks, evaluate the vocal abilities of all auditionees, and offer suggestions on which individual might be best suited to each role based on vocal performance.
• Plan and lead all music rehearsals.
• Teach music to the cast during musical rehearsals.
• Lead warm-ups with the cast before shows and rehearsals for which they are present. 
• Assist with the scheduling of music rehearsals.
• Helping to assemble and prepare the musical tracks. 
• Assist with “all hands on deck” rehearsals (Including all of tech week and all performances). 
• Help to train and monitor our sound operators during tech week and shows. 

Qualifications

QUALIFICATIONS:

• Ability to adapt and be flexible to schedule changes throughout the process. Rehearsals typically run after school 3:45pm-6:30pm, during the week, and some Saturdays from 10:00am-4:00pm (these times/days can change based on production team availability) 
• Strong communication skills.
• Piano proficiency.
• Experience in vocal coaching and/or music directing is preferred.
