Job Description

Job Summary
We are seeking a dedicated and compassionate Special Education Teacher to support students with diverse learning needs. The ideal candidate will develop and implement individualized education plans (IEPs), foster an inclusive classroom environment, and collaborate with staff, parents, and specialists to promote student success. This role requires a strong understanding of childhood development, behavioral management, and specialized instructional strategies to meet the unique needs of students with disabilities. The teacher will work closely with children across early childhood to adolescence, providing tailored instruction in literacy, math, communication skills, and social-emotional development.

Responsibilities

  • Design and deliver engaging lesson plans aligned with curriculum standards and individual student goals, including speech therapy, literacy education, and math instruction.
  • Develop and implement effective IEPs in collaboration with multidisciplinary teams to ensure personalized learning experiences.
  • Manage classroom behavior through positive behavioral health strategies and behavioral therapy techniques.
  • Adapt instructional materials and teaching methods to accommodate students with autism, developmental disabilities, hearing impairments (deaf education), or other special needs.
  • Conduct assessments using standardized testing tools to monitor progress and inform instructional adjustments.
  • Provide early intervention services and support for children in preschool or early childhood education settings.
  • Foster a supportive learning environment that encourages social skills development, independence, and self-confidence among students.
  • Collaborate with speech therapists, behavioral health specialists, and other professionals to support comprehensive student development.
  • Maintain detailed documentation of student progress, attendance, and IEP compliance.
  • Engage in ongoing professional development related to classroom management, curriculum development, literacy education, tutoring techniques, and special education best practices.

Experience

  • Prior classroom experience working with children in special education settings is required; experience with private schools or Montessori environments is a plus.
  • Demonstrated expertise in working with students with autism, developmental disabilities, or behavioral health challenges.
  • Proven ability to develop lesson plans that incorporate speech therapy techniques, literacy education strategies, and math instruction tailored for diverse learners.
  • Experience managing classrooms effectively while implementing behavior management plans.
  • Familiarity with early childhood education principles, preschool experience, or early intervention programs is highly desirable.
  • Strong communication skills for collaborating with colleagues, parents, and specialists to support student success.
  • Knowledge of IEP development process and experience conducting assessments for individualized instruction planning. This position offers an opportunity to make a meaningful impact on the lives of students requiring specialized educational support while working within a collaborative team dedicated to inclusive learning environments.
